Adoption process in Surrey
Thinking of Adopting? Here’s What Happens Next
At Pawsitive Rescue Sanctuary, our priority is to match each animal with the most suitable home for their lifestyle and needs. To do this, we take our assessments seriously and ask you to provide as much information as possible about your circumstances, family, and lifestyle so we can identify the perfect match.
The 6-steps process
Register Your Interest
Complete our Adoption Enquiry Form
- If we do not have a match at the time of your application, we will keep your form on file for 6 months.
- During this time, if we think we have found a suitable match, we will contact you.
Leave It With Us
Matching takes time. As our team is busy caring for the animals, we may not be able to respond to every enquiry immediately. Please be assured we will contact you if you are a potential match.
Potential Match Contact
If your application matches one of our animals, a member of our team will call you to discuss your enquiry in more detail.
Home Check
If the initial conversation suggests a good match, we will arrange a home check—either virtually or in person.
Meet & Greet
If the home check is successful, we will arrange meet-and-greet sessions.
- All household members and pets must meet the animal before adoption.
Adoption
Once both sides agree the match is right, the first step will be a three-month foster agreement. If everything goes well during this period, it will conclude with a full adoption contract.

Important Information
- Adopters must be 18 or over.
- Several families may go through the process for the same animal to ensure the best possible match.
- If an animal is already in the meet-and-greet stage, we will not start a new match unless the current one does not result in adoption.
- We request a contribution towards the cost of caring for and rehoming each animal. If you are a UK taxpayer, please consider Gift Aid—this allows us to claim an additional 25p for every £1 you donate.
